Vote for the cause PKO will support with its Christmas donation

We asked PKO’s co-op members for their wishes and ideas on where the funds reserved for Christmas donations (€3,500) should be directed.
PKO is a consumer cooperative owned by local households. That’s why it’s natural for us to ask our owners – ordinary people from North Karelia – where they would like the funds reserved for Christmas donations to be directed. This year, we received an amazing number of suggestions: more than 200 different causes. Thank you for all your ideas! Many of the proposals highlighted the situation of children and young people. The three causes that received the most suggestions from our members have now been selected for the final vote. It’s time to choose whether the donation will go to Joensuun Nuorisoverstas (Joensuu Youth Workshop), Hope ry, or ViaDia Joensuu.
  • ViaDia Joensuuprovides family and food aid through two locations in Joensuu’s Rantakylä district: the ViaDia Center and the Neighborhood House. Their goal is to support the well-being of families with children, prevent the marginalization of immigrant families, and promote integration.
  • Joensuun Nuorisoverstas (Joensuu Youth Workshop)helps young people aged 16–28 who are not in school or employment to develop life skills and everyday competencies, and supports their transition to education and working life. Services include youth workshops, outreach youth work, and development projects in Joensuu, Outokumpu, and Polvijärvi.
  • Hope Joensuuoffers concrete support to low-income families and those in crisis. Assistance includes clothing, shoes, toys, games, household items, as well as sports equipment and hobby support for children and young people. The work is based on volunteer efforts and donations, enabling help to be provided locally to families in the Joensuu area.

PKO’s tradition of charitable donations

Since 1987, PKO has donated the funds reserved for Christmas greetings to local organizations for charitable purposes. For several years now, the donation recipient has been chosen by first collecting suggestions from PKO’s members and then letting them vote for the final cause.Last year, the donation went to Löytöeläimet ry based on members’ wishes. In previous years, recipients have included the Joulupuu charity campaign, Joensuu Family House / Save the Children, practical nurses, Omaiset mielenterveystyön tukena, Mannerheim League for Child Welfare, Honkalampi Foundation, psychiatric care for children and youth, foster families, Parempi Arki ry, North Karelia Cancer Children Sykkyrä ry, Christmas meal projects, North Karelia Crisis Center, North Karelia Mental Health Association, Siun Sote Child Psychiatry, Susiraja Animal Shelter Association, and Löytöeläimet ry.Donating to charity reflects PKO’s core value of shared good and is a practical way to implement our vision: “Making North Karelia an even better place to live.”More information: Petri Vähä, Director of Communications and Responsibility, PKO Tel. 010 762 2034 | Email: petri.vaha@sok.fi
