It’s a long way from Saudi Arabia to Finland, but Awad Amin A Rahman has found a new home in Joensuu. He worked at Prisma Joensuu for the summer, and his duties included stacking shelves, pricing and customer service, as well as working at the checkout. Awab is studying at Karelia University of Applied Sciences to become an engineer.“I’m from Bangladesh and was born in Saudi Arabia, where I used to work in sales promotion and resales. In Finland, I previously worked at Posti and SOL Logistics Services. At Prisma, I especially liked the peaceful working environment and the independence of the work,” says Awab about his work experience.For many students, a summer job experience provides many kinds of security and assurance.“I feel that I’m much more confident and responsible after having had this summer job. I’ve met many new open-minded people and found new useful contacts in Joensuu. The wages from the summer job also gave me the necessary financial security for the summer,” Awad describes the benefits of the summer job.All in all, the summer job at Prisma in Joensuu was a positive and pleasant experience for Awad."I learned to work more efficiently and smarter, and I find it particularly valuable that the work gave my Finnish skills a great boost. The most memorable situation for me was when I helped a customer in my freshly acquired Finnish to use a product, and despite my limitations he was very happy with my assistance. It made me feel really good and boosted my self-esteem. I can definitely recommend PKO as an employer. All my co-workers were warm-hearted, helpful and sociable, which made work especially pleasant,” Awad sums up his experience.Published in 2024.
